Mississippi State barged into the AP Poll this week after dispatching then-No.12 LSU in a 37-7 home rout. On Saturday, they can prove they’re top 10 worthy by upsetting No. 11 Georgia on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 7p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN (live stream).

Can the Bulldogs’ hot start continue against the, uh, Bulldogs?

MSU has rolled through its three opponents this fall, winning each game by at least 30 points to make an early statement. Beating their Bulldog counterpart in Athens would make them the most serious challenger to Alabama’s throne in the SEC. It won’t be easy, though — Georgia also stands at 3-0 with a valuable road win of its own.
The Bulldogs escaped South Bend with a 20-19 victory over then-No. 25 Notre Dame. They’re coming off a 28-point stomping of FCS Samford in their last game — a much-needed tuneup in advance of Saturday’s showdown.

Mississippi State at Georgia news:
- Sony Michel and Nick Chubb are the present of the Georgia running game, but D’Andre Smith is the future.
Swift now has 17 carries for 132 yards, putting him only 30 yards behind Sony Michel for second place on the team. His 7.5 yards per carry leads the team (Nick Chubb is second at 6.6). There have been other promising freshman tailbacks who’ve not lived up to their potential. But Swift at least clearly has all-world potential.
- Georgia has confidence it can handle a cross-division rival at home, even after they whooped LSU.
Speaking of which, about that Missy State/LSU game. Scary? Absolutely. But I wouldn’t panic just yet. Putting together two sterling performances in a row is a pro move, and I’m not sure the Fightin’ Mullens are there just yet.
Just blindsided LSU, 37-7, dominated every phase of the game, and yeah, we’re here. It’s Week 3, and Dan Mullen’s 20-year plan to conquer the SEC has passed the “frequently capable of thumping LSU” stage of things. The most shocking element: How Miss State’s defense made the new-look LSU offense look a lot like a bad, old, Les Miles offense on paper.
Mississippi State is good. Really good. But now, after a 37-7 massacre, this team has an opportunity to be special. It is rare when we see true greatness in a Bulldog team. We went undefeated in 1940. We won the SEC in 1941. We won the West in 1998. We won 10 games in 1999. We were number one in 2014.
It’s only a handful of seasons. But, the challenge awaits State. The 2017 squad can be in that list.
Was Mississippi State’s win over LSU more on the Tigers than the Bulldogs?
Mississippi State upset the SEC apple cart but trouncing LSU, but the question that remains is whether the Bulldogs are the good, or if the Tigers were that overrated. MSU ran all over LSU with impunity, gaining 285 yards on 49 carries in a game that was over by the start of the fourth quarter. Georgia, however, has allowed only 2.3 yards per rush this season — and that could be just the kind of defense to derail Mississippi State’s College Football Playoff hopes.
Mississippi State at Georgia prediction:
Georgia will have to stop tailback Aeris Williams and dual-threat quarterback Nick Fitzgerald from extending drives on the ground — but the Bulldogs are built for that. After limiting Notre Dame to 55 rushing yards, UGA has proven it has the chops to slow down their SEC West rival.
