Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight isn’t playing Saturday night against Michigan State. ABC play-by-play broadcaster Chris Fowler reported he has three fractured vertebrae and likely won’t play again this season. Speight was with his teammates, but he didn’t show up in uniform and looked to be walking gingerly.
Michigan QB Wilton Speight still out against Michigan State
Speight was hurt two weeks earlier at Purdue.

Speight left the Wolverines’ game at Purdue in the first quarter on Sept. 23. He appeared to have a knee or back injury, after he got crunched during a Purdue sack. If Speight is indeed out for the rest of the year, that’s a significant blow for UM.
Speight’s replacement is John O’Korn, a onetime Houston transfer who also served as his backup last season. O’Korn started his night on Saturday 8-of-16 for 67 yards.
He’s done a decent job in relief of Speight before, and he’d been efficient in guiding a few touchdown drives earlier this year. But O’Korn has a lot to prove to Big Ten defenses who, until he demonstrates he can beat them downfield, will be able to key on Michigan’s running backs.
He’s got a quarterback guru coaching him in Jim Harbaugh, at least.
