No. 13 LSU played BYU on Saturday night in the Superdome in New Orleans, La. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Houston, but Hurricane Harvey caused the relocation to New Orleans. The Tigers cruised past the Cougars, winning 27-0.
BYU played LSU in the Superdome, and the Cougars didn’t cross the 50
Here’s why that’s ironic.

As the game entered the final quarter, BYU’s offense had yet to cross the 50-yard line. And it never did before the game ended.
Here’s why that’s a little ironic. Five years ago, the last time LSU played in the Superdome, was against Alabama in the 2012 BCS National Championship game. The Tide beat the Tigers 21-0, and LSU’s offense was so flat that it didn’t cross the 50-yard line until there were eight minutes left in the game. On the night, LSU had just 92 yards and five first downs.
So this defensive performance has to be a little sweet for Tigers fans. BYU had less than 100 total yards (they had 97), and the Cougars had the ball for just 18:06, compared to LSU’s 40:59. Oh, and BYU had a total of six first downs on the night!
During the week leading up to Saturday night’s game, former Tigers defensive lineman Greg Gilmore and T-Bob Hebert, a center on that 2011 team, not crossing midfield was a topic of conversation during an interview. Former LSU head coach Les Miles opted to not play Herbert at center, which was a big storyline at the time.
For LSU fans, this is obviously a hilarious irony, and Tiger fans are probably relieved 2012 didn’t happen all over again.
