Hurricane Irma has now caused three college football teams inside the state of Florida to miss their scheduled games. On Thursday evening, it was announced that USF’s game at UConn, scheduled to kickoff at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, would not be played as scheduled.
USF vs. UConn will not be played Saturday as scheduled due to Hurricane Irma
The game was originally moved up to a 10:30 a.m. kick.

“As I noted in my comments yesterday, the safety and well-being of our students, staff and coaches is our paramount concern,” said USF AD Mark Harlan in an official release. “Several large areas of the state are under evacuation orders, including portions of the Tampa Bay area. After consultation with university leadership and outside agencies, I believe it is not appropriate for our team to travel at this time.” “I want to extend our gratitude to the University of Connecticut and the American Athletic Conference for their compassion and understanding. Our thoughts are with all of those impacted by the hurricane.”
Miami’s game at Arkansas State was cancelled, as was Florida’s home opener against Northern Colorado. The Bulls originally were scheduled to play the Huskies at noon, before it was moved up to 10:30 a.m. yesterday. Due to the announcement’s language “will not be played as scheduled,” it appears that both sides are attempting to schedule a make-up game, which would make sense, given that this is a divisional AAC matchup for these two teams. But some scheduling logistics could get in the way.
The two teams do not share a bye week, but the Bulls have two open weekends on their schedule, so there’s a chance one of their other games could potentially be moved around. Hurricane Irma’s latest track shows a western shift, which will directly hit South Florida before moving up through Central Florida.
