Alabama Crimson Tide
The Crimson Tide finished the regular season ranked second in the nation in total defense allowing 258 yards per game and first in scoring defense allowing 11.5 points per game.
That elite defense was on display in Alabama’s 24-6 win over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl last week. Alabama allowed the Tigers only 188 total yards and had two interceptions in the game, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
The dominant effort gave the Crimson Tide a chance to keep the workload light on their starters late in the game.
In their last nine instances as a betting favorite of 7.5 points or less, the Crimson Tide are 7-2 SU and 6-3 ATS per the OddsShark College Football Database.
Georgia Bulldogs
After a disastrous start that saw the Bulldogs fall behind the Oklahoma Sooners 31-14 in the second quarter, Georgia made some adjustments at the half and eventually went on to win the thrilling Rose Bowl 54-48 in double overtime.
True freshman quarterback Jake Fromm was excellent under center, but the real heavy lifting on this offense came from the team’s running back duo of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. The two backs combined for a staggering 326 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on only 25 carries while Michel added four catches and a touchdown in the receiving game.
Monday night’s total is set at 44.5 points. The OVER is 5-1 in Alabama’s last six games played in January.
Georgia is 3-0 SU and ATS in its last three games as a betting underdog. To pull off a fourth straight upset, the Bulldogs will need to crack an Alabama rush defense that only allows 94.1 rushing yards per game and get another mistake-free game out of their young quarterback.
