Everyone hated Notre Dame’s awful Yankees uniforms, maybe even more than expected

Back in August, Notre Dame showed the world the uniforms it would wear for this Saturday’s game against Syracuse. The game’s at Yankee Stadium, so the Irish figured they’d dress like the baseball team, haters (all of them) be damned:

In addition to being wildly ugly and looking like literal baseball uniforms, the jerseys lent themselves to jokes about Notre Dame’s place in the national sporting landscape:

Here are two things you should know about me:

1. I am a Notre Dame fan.

2. I am not a Yankees fan.

Overall, I’m not in love with the idea of going all in with the Yankees motif. It lends itself to way too many parallels between the Irish and the “Evil Empire.” I also don’t really get why Notre Dame would want to align itself with one of the most polarizing sports franchises, BUT like Notre Dame, you either love or you hate the Yankees.

I don’t really like using Twitter as a barometer for public opinion, because just a small segment of the world is actually on it. And I only come across a tiny portion of the tweets on the platform. But I get the strong impression that people like these uniforms even less than I thought they would, for the most part, which is saying a lot.
