Justin Herbert leaves game vs. Oregon State with apparent injury

He took a big sack in the first half and didn’t return to the game.

Oregon starting quarterback Justin Herbert left the Ducks’ game on Saturday in Corvallis against Oregon State with an apparent injury. In the second quarter, Herbert took a sack and grabbed what looked like his his right shoulder or collarbone afterwards.

He was seen riding a cart to the locker room afterwards — he did come back to Oregon’s sideline but was later seen wearing street clothes after halftime.

Before his injury, Herbert threw for 102 yards and a touchdown during the Ducks’ rout of the Beavers, leading 17-3 at halftime. Herbert’s back-up, Braxton Burmeister, replaced Herbert at the start of the second half, and he’s led four touchdown drives in Herbert’s absence.

Hopefully the injury isn’t too serious for Herbert, who is expected to be the first quarterback overall taken in next year’s NFL Draft. SB Nation’s latest mock draft has Herbert going No. 1 overall to the New York Giants:

Herbert has emerged this season as the top quarterback prospect in a draft severely lacking in passers. He’s a big, strong-armed thrower with good athleticism to maneuver around the pocket. The Giants will closely be watching to see if he decides to return for another year at Oregon. If he does, New York could be in trouble.

Oregon will go to a bowl game this year, and it’s unknown whether or not Herbert will play, but there’s a chance he could now even more likely to sit that one out. Herbert is the second high-profile quarterback to leave a game on Black Friday — UCF starter McKenzie Milton suffered a gruesome leg injury that knocked him out of the USF game in the first half.

We’ll update this post with any further information.
