You think the Red River Rivalry ends when you graduate? Not a chance. Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger threw some spice into the offseason war of words between the programs after one of his teammates made this innocent tweet about the team’s strength program.
Baker Mayfield has some vicious shade for Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger
You come at the shade king’s teammates, and you best not miss.

The reference here is about Oklahoma offensive lineman Orlando Brown’s God-awful NFL Combine performance. It was quantifiably one of the worst ever, and his bench press number of 14 reps was highly disappointing for a 6’8, 345-pound offensive lineman. Things also get deeper because the strength coach both players are praising (Yancy McKnight) was an assistant briefly at Oklahoma back in 2002.
After their pro day, Baker Mayfield clapped back at his former UT counterpart.
“He’s never beaten Lake Travis, and he also hasn’t beaten OU,” Mayfield said.
Clearly, Mayfield hasn’t lost any of his edge in the draft process, and the burn goes deep because it goes all the way back to high school. Texas high school football is a huge deal in the state and Mayfield knows it, so he invokes Ehlinger record against his alma mater. And Mayfield wasn’t the only OU player who came back at Ehlinger either.
The OU-UT rivalry lives whether it’s a Saturday afternoon in the Cotton Bowl or a Twitter spat.
