Florida’s blowout win in Week 4 was enough to make the Tennessee fanbase collapse in upon itself like a dying star. Now the Gators will have the opportunity to destroy another SEC team’s season by sending Mississippi State to a second-straight defeat.

A battle between teams Kentucky whooped up on.

The Bulldogs had their 3-0 start upended by a streaking Kentucky team who suddenly looks like one of the SEC’s best. Their road to recovery runs through Davis Wade Stadium and another 3-1 team in the Gators. The winner will keep their conference title hopes alive. The loser downgrades their highest postseason hopes to “Citrus Bowl.”

Florida vs. Mississippi State news:
- The Bulldogs have a stacked backfield, but are they using it right?
Having opened conference play with a disappointing loss in Lexington, Mississippi State will have to rediscover its loaded backfield. The Wildcats corralled the Bulldogs on the ground, as Nick Fitzgerald, Aeris Williams and Kylin Hill were limited to 44 yards rushing. With Florida around the corner in primetime, fans will be expecting a rebound in Starkville.
It was a bit surprising to see one of the game’s best offensive minds in coach Joe Moorhead have little to no answer against an up and coming Kentucky team. Something was just not clicking and if there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that there is definitely room for growth. On the bright side, the talent is there and too much to work with is always better than too little. Though it will take time, expect the Bulldogs to be a run first team and find a way to better utilize the three mentioned above.
- But don’t discount MSU wideout Keith Mixon, who looked due for a breakout after a big Week 3 performance, then turned in a goose egg against the Wildcats.
- Florida’s rout last week sent Tennessee fans spiraling into meltdown mode.
- That was a downright disrespectful win in Knoxville — but will it translate to a big season for Dan Mullen?
Where does Florida fit in the SEC East?
The Gators Week 2 loss to Kentucky seemed like an upset at the time — but the Wildcats have looked like a legit top 25 program in their 4-0 start. Florida’s two wins since then dispatched overmatched opponents by a combined score of 95-31, setting up a potential revival but ultimately not saying much about the team’s ability to handle adversity.
That’s where the Bulldogs come in. Feleipe Franks struggled against the Wildcats and hasn’t been asked to do much in the blowouts since. If the Gators fall behind early and need him to pass their way out of a deficit, Florida could be in trouble. Mississippi State’s defense ranks seventh in the FBS when it comes to passing yards allowed (148.3).
Florida vs. Mississippi State prediction:
Nick Moorhead is looking for his first SEC win after falling to Kentucky last week. The preseason S&P+ ratings likes his odds. Bulldogs by 10.
