College Hockey schedule 2012: Second-ranked Notre Dame faces Bowling Green

A matchup between No. 2 Notre Dame and Bowling Green highlights Tuesday’s college hockey schedule. Can the Irish avoid their second loss of the week?

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

With this weekend's college hockey action out the way, the spotlight should be on a big matchup between the second-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Bowling Green Falcons for Tuesday's short schedule. One of just two games going on, it gives the Irish a chance to get back some ground on top-ranked Minnesota with the pollsters.

While the Irish have played extremely well over the past couple months, they missed a key opportunity to shake up the top of the national rankings by losing 4-1 to the Golden Gophers last Tuesday. The only regular season matchup between the two teams this season, a win likely would’ve bumped Notre Dame to the top of the national poll.

In Tuesday's second game, the Penn St. Nittany Lions take on the Neumann Knights. It's been a rough year for Penn State, which has been below .500 for weeks, but Neumann has actually played quite well of late. After a bad stretch in early December, the Knights have won five consecutive games.
