India’s Tour Of England: Graham Onions Comes As Cover For James Anderson

James Anderson’s injury has meant that Graham Onions has been called up as cover in case of his pulling out of the fourth and the final Test match of the series.

The injury issues, that had laid the Indian side low in the series so far, have shown the first few signs of emerging for England as well. James Anderson is said to be slightly unfit for the fourth Test match while Chris Tremlett has been ruled out of the fourth game in the series after he failed a fitness test.

Tremlett has been replaced by Graham Onions, while Steven Fin will continue to remain in the squad as cover for Anderson, in case he does not make it through for the fourth game.

According to the national English selector, Geoff Miller, Tremlett had shown signs of improvement in the last few days but failed to recover fully. He also said that the reason for Onions’ selection was the fitness issue related to Anderson. Anderson is said to have been hit by tightness in his right quadriceps.

Miller added, "We are hopeful that Jimmy will overcome this niggle by Thursday, but more time is required before a decision on his availability can be made conclusively.”

Interestingly, Onions is himself coming off a long layoff having suffered from an almost career-threatening back injury in 2010.

England has already won the four-match series by crushing India in the first three matches and are gunning for a clean sweep against India that will push the visitors to the number three position in the Test match rankings. The fourth and the final Test match of the series will be played at the Oval from August 18.
