In what should be a cracking game for the Indian fans, the two IPL teams, Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings face off against each other on the second day of the Champions League T20 2011.

Venue: M Chidambaram, Chennai

Date: September 24, 2011

Time: 2000 hours local time, 1430 hours GMT onwards

The Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings Champions League T20, 2011 match will be shown live on Star Cricket in India.

Previous Results:

The Mumbai Indians have played in the CLT20 last year, but failed to move beyond the first round of the competition, ending with two wins from their four games. On the other hand, the Super Kings are the defending champions of the Champions League T20 and have won two IPL tournaments in a row.

Key Players:

The Mumbai Indians batting will revolve around Davy Jacobs at the top and Kieron Pollard in the middle. The injury issues to the side could allow Andrew Symonds to make it to the playing 11, but all eyes will be on the captain Harbhajan Singh. The Mumbai Indians fans will go about hoping and praying that the only slapping he does is to the ball, when he goes in to bat.

Chennai have a strong line-up and will hope for an encore from Michael Hussey. He was responsible for his side’s success in the previous CLT20 as he was in the recently concluded series between Australia and Sri Lanka.

And they will miss...

The Mumbai Indians will go into the game with a slight, rule tweak to ensure that they are not affected by the loss of players to injuries. They are being allowed five foreign players to feature in the tournament as opposed to the four that the other IPL teams will be allowed.

And yet, they will miss Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and Munaf Patel in the tournament. To add to this, it is not only the team but the brand CLT20 that will lose its sheen without the presence of Tendulkar and that will be a telling blow to a tournament struggling for its TV ratings.

Chennai will go into the tournament with Tim Southee, ruled out of the series with an injury. However, there are many ready replacements for the Super Kings in the squad and there wouldn’t be too much of a worry for the Super Kings.

Prediction:

Chennai hands down. Difficult to see how Mumbai Indians will put it across the Super Kings.
