Tom Maynard Of Surrey Passes Away

Tom Maynard, an enterprising batsman with Surrey, son of former England all rounder Matthew Maynard and according to many a future England prospect died on Monday morning under mysterious circumstances. His body was found dead on the rails near Wimbledon Park tube station in south London around dawn. According to reports, about an hour before his death, he was supposedly pulled over by the police for 'Erratic Driving'.
Maynard who formerly was with Glamorgan followed his father and coach out of the club following a fall out with the authorities and joined Surrey. While he had an unremarkable first class average of 32.65, he had been very successful over the last year in the shorter formats of the game. Having replaced Mark Ramprakash in the ODI squad, he passed 1000 runs for the first time in 2011, and was instrumental in getting his side a promotion. He had the third highest average in T20 cricket this season at 43.55.
After Graham Kersey in 1997, Ben Hollioake in 2002, this is the third tragedy to have struck Surrey, as another exceptional talent gets lost to the vagaries of life.
