Greig Delivers Spirit Of Cricket Speech

The annual Colin Cowdrey Spirit of Cricket speech was delivered by Tony Greig at Lords on Tuesday. The former English captain has never minced when talking about the BCCI and its high handedness, and he did not sugarcoat his thoughts as he took to the Indian cricket board.

His speech mainly centered around the ways and means of BCCI and how it should use its power for the improvement of the game. Greig also spoke about how the BCCI is obsessed with commercialization of the game only, in particular the IPL and Champions League. He said that the Indian board have placed the Test matches on the back burner and have been the main reason why the International cricket calendar goes for a toss every year. His main focus as always was on the utilisation of the UDRS, need for lie detector tests and stringent doping laws.

While most of his speech incriminated the BCCI for seemingly all the wrongs that plague world cricket, he also applauded them for the way they have leveraged the popularity of the game to earn money for themselves and other boards, and how they recently made a one time contribution of $13 million for ex cricketers.
