His Royal Highness Tunku Imran of Malaysia who heads the Commonwealth Games Federation gave a brief presentation to the ICC at its annual meet in Kuala Lumpur. The prince who has been a longstanding patron of cricket invited the ICC to consider the sport to be a part of the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in St Lucia and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Proposal To Include Cricket In Commonwealth Games

Cricket was last part of the Commonwealth Games in 1998, where South Africa beat Australia in a nerve wrecking final to win the gold medal. Barring Australia none of the countries had sent in their first team for the event, something which had received a lot of criticism. The period during which the commonwealth games are scheduled is most likely to clash with the IPL.
Imran however said that knowing the tight scheduling of international matches, he would not mind if the countries send in their best available players. The ICC is likely to consider the option and give a decision in October during their next meet.
