Tour de France 2013 results, Stage 8: Chris Froome wins stage, takes yellow jersey
Britain’s Chris Froome used a late push to win Stage 8 of the Tour de France and now owns the yellow jersey.

Froome, the team leader of Team Sky, launched a solo attack over the final five kilometers of the stage. He was helped by teammate Richie Porte, who finished second, 51 seconds behind Froome. Meanwhile, Froome’s rivals struggled in the race’s first ascent into the Pyrenees Mountains. Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Cadel Evans -- all former Tour winners -- finished 1:45, 3:34 and 4:13 behind Froome respectively. Evans’ poor day likely takes him out of contention.
The Tour isn’t at the halfway point yet, but Team Sky is in a good position to separate themselves from the pack as they head into the grueling mountain stages.
