Chris Froome of Team Sky took the yellow jersey in the Tour de France after a dominating performance in the uphill Stage 8. His teammate, Richie Porte, gave him an assist on the ascent to Ax 3 Domaines, and he sits in second place, just 51 seconds behind.

Team Sky is in control of the Tour de France after Stage 8, with teammates Chris Froome and Richie Porte owning the top two spots.


Froome took the yellow jersey from South Africa’s Daryl Impey, who struggled in Stage 8 and currently sits in 31st place. Two-time Tour winner Alberto Contador fell back to seventh place, while 2011 champion Cadel Evans struggled in Stage 8 and dropped down to 23rd place.
Stage 9 is the second stage taking place in the Pyrenees Mountains. It stretches from Saint-Girons to Bagneras-de-Bigorre and there are four steep climbs over 168.5 kilometers. Team Sky is in a good position to dominate the mountain stages and take control of the race.
