The fourth stage of the 2014 Tour de France is in the books, and a clear pattern is developing: Marcel Kittel keeps winning things. The winner of stages one and three, Kittel took the fourth stage on Tuesday in similar fashion to his first two, but it was quite a bit closer at the end this time around.

Kitell and Mark Renshaw actually trailed heading into the final 50 meters, having given Alexander Kristoff too much cushion early on. It was a struggle for Kitell to close in, but the stage finished with a strong sprint that led to Kittell taking the win by half a wheel, as Podium Cafe put it, ahead of Kristoff and Arnaud Démare.
It’s Kitell’s seventh career stage victory in the Tour de France, and this is only the second time he’s competed in the event. Last year, he took a full four stages and with three wins in four days, it’s not hard to imagine he’ll break that personal record.
There were no changes among the top of the classification, with Vincenzo Nibali retaining his yellow jersey. We’ve got some results from the stage and overall below:
