Peter Sagan has the yellow jersey for the first time in his career heading into Stage 3 at the 2016 Tour de France on Monday. The stage will run from Granville to Angers, a 223.5-kilometer southerly ride primarily favoring sprinters. It’s going to be a fast stage with a bit of coastal wind blowing in, same as the first two stages.

Peter Sagan has the lead going into the third stage of the 2016 Tour de France on Monday.
Sagan has a comfortable lead in the races for the yellow and green jerseys due to his third-place finish in Stage 1 and his victory in the second stage. Pure sprinters like Marcel Kittel and Mark Cavendish won’t catch Sagan in Stage 3, but they can surely make up some ground after losing a whole lot of time to Sagan during the second stage.
The finish of the stage should be an intense sprint and will definitely be worth checking out. The stage will begin around 5:45 a.m. ET and is expected to wrap up close to 11:15 a.m. If there’s any bit of the stage that’s definitely worth watching, it’s the final sprint.
The final kilometer is slightly uphill, gaining about 20 meters in elevation by the end of it. It shouldn’t cause disasters or serious fits for any of the the top sprinters, but it’s definitely something worth keeping an eye on. Sagan doesn’t need a top finish to hold on to his jersey, but his strong performance in Stage 1 and the very slight rise in Stage 3 could have him performing beyond expectations in the stage.
