Several climbs await riders for Stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana on Friday.

Stage 13 at the Vuelta a Espana isn’t as crazy with its climbs as it used to be, but the altered course still features several categorized climbs over its 213 kilometers. Running from Bilbao to Urdax-Dantxarinea, it’s the longest stage of the Vuelta despite it coming just before some of the most important stages of the race.

Riders will climb a full 1,000 meters more in Stage 13 than they did in Stage 12, with over 3,700 meters of climbing in total. Despite this, there are only category three climbs for riders to deal with. The stage includes an uncategorized climb just near its end, a brief leveling off point and then a very sudden and steep descent.

Trying to hold together through a course with this many climbs will be difficult. While the climb is arduous, the action on the track should be relatively subdued without serious chasing or sprinting going on.

Friday’s ride will begin at 5:45 a.m. ET, with an approximate finish somewhere close to noon. The only way to watch live in the United States is to subscribe to NBC Sports Gold, which will carry coverage of the stage beginning at 9 a.m. and running through the stage’s completion.
