PORTLAND, Oregon -- At some point, it just made sense all around.
David Blough standing out at Elite 11 Finals
The undersized quarterback has drawn favorable comparisons to former Purdue quarterback Drew Brees.
Carrollton (Texas) Creekview quarterback David Blough was cited by Elite 11 head coach Trent Dilfer as one of the six standouts from the first three days of the finals. Despite being listed at 6’1, Blough plays bigger than his size and has drawn praise for his high-level mechanics, which allow him to leverage the football to the greatest extent possible, meaning that he can achieve accuracy and velocity that are unusual for his size.
And Blough committed to play his college football for the Purdue Boilermakers in June, so it seemed only fitting that it was former Purdue star Drew Brees who had previously called the Creekview product to inform him of his invite. It wasn’t really a coincidence -- Blough reminded Dilfer of Brees, so it was Brees who made the call.
It hardly seemed like a stretch in watching the Elite 11 Finals to start comparing Blough to Brees because of their similarities in stature and mechanical efficiency. It’s a comparison that Dilfer supports as a big fan of Blough, too.
Not to mention a heartening comparison for Purdue football fans thirsty for the success experienced with Brees as the signal caller.
