It is officially summer time which means that all of the summer staples are out.

The pool is the place to be. The grill is rocking and rolling. When all the afternoon fun has been had and it’s time to unwind for the evening there is only one thing to do it with… s’mores.

If you are like me, a child of the 90s, then you came to know and love s’mores through the greatest summer movie of all-time… The Sandlot. While the movie teaches us a lot about various things it also teaches us that s’mores are highly important if you want to be good at baseball. Or something like that.

One of the the stars from the film in Patrick Renna, Patrick played Ham Porter who was the catcher for the team, is doing what he can to keep s’mores alive and well here in 2026. He is helping to bring awareness to a new kit that HERSHEY’S has… their Flavor Combos S’mores Kit that includes 3 chocolate bars, 3 with caramel, 3 REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups, 2 packs of graham crackers, and 1 bag of marshmallows.

The kits are available at a number of retail outlets:

In the lead-up to the product announcement SB Nation had a chance to speak to Patrick, and I was curious for something he thinks people may not understand about the movie.

“I’m gonna answer it with something I do think a lot of people see in it but maybe they don’t attribute to why they like the movie so much. But I think it does a really good job of inclusion. And if you, ‘cause if you think about it… when Smalls first comes to the sand lot we’re all making fun of him. And and then Benny is like you know ‘Zip it Yeah Yeah you run like a duck.‘”

“And then all of a sudden you know, you include him and and he starts teaching him and he becomes good. And I I think that’s the thing you have to remember… is sometimes people haven’t done something or they they don’t know or they haven’t tried it, but not until you give them a shot are they are you going to see if they’re gonna amount to anything having to do with that subject. So I think that’s a really cool part of it.”

Our thanks to Patrick and to HERSHEY’S for the time!
