Nico Rosberg was victorious at Baku City Circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan. While his Mercedes teammate, Lewis Hamilton, was frustrated throughout the race due to a setting on his car being wrong, Rosberg took a comfortable pole position and led for every single lap of the race.
European Grand Prix 2016 results: Full finishing order for Formula 1 race
Nico Rosberg’s championship points lead is back up to 24 points after he went from pole to victory in the European Grand Prix in Baku on Sunday.

Hamilton repeatedly tried to address the problem, but could not identify what needed to be changed, while his pit wall was unable to tell him what the issue was due to Formula 1 rules. As such Hamilton, who crashed out of the third qualifying session and started in 10th, couldn’t push for a podium and finished the race in fifth.
Rosberg’s championship lead was decreased to just nine points after Hamilton took wins in the Monaco Grand Prix and the Canadian Grand Prix. But with his finish he is now 24 points beyond Hamilton in the championship.
Sergio Pérez of Force India qualified in second place for the race, but due to a gearbox change he received a five-place grid penalty and started from seventh. But it was another brilliant drive from Pérez, and he managed to angle his car onto the podium, passing Kimi Räikkönen of Ferrari on the last lap for third place. Sebastian Vettel, Räikkönen’s teammate, essentially ran his own race, unable to keep up with Rosberg but not challenged from behind, and finished second.
The Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen didn’t challenge Mercedes and Ferrari like they hoped, but the pair both finished in the points and had a respectable showing. Ricciardo finished in seventh, ahead of his teammate in eighth. Valtteri Bottas, who picked up Williams’ first podium of the season in Canada, finished the race in sixth.
Haas drivers Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutiérrez ran solid races but neither driver from the American-owned team finished in the points. Grosjean wound up in 13th and Gutierrez came in at 16th.
Though carnage was expected on the opening lap due to the fact that the track is new, narrow and dangerous, none of the top drivers got into any accidents around the first corners and the lap as a whole.
The first driver out of the race was Daniil Kvyat of Torro Rosso. Unfortunately for him, there was a suspension issue with his car and he was retired within the first 10 laps of the race. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, suffered a similar suspension issue and went out around 20 laps after Kvyat giving Torro Rosso a double retirement and a disappointing end to a fun weekend.
But those weren’t the only two, as both Manor and McLaren suffered losses when Pascal Wehrlein and Fernando Alonso were forced to retire with less than 10 laps remaining.
