Only nine points separate Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in the Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship standings going into Sunday’s British Grand Prix from Silverstone. And only one spot separates the two on the starting grid, with Hamilton snagging pole position despite losing one lap due to exceeding the track limits.
British Grand Prix 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch Formula 1 online
Lewis Hamilton has pole position for the British Grand Prix from Silverstone on Sunday. Here’s how you can watch the race online.

But Rosberg will be right behind him, and after the two had a collision on the final lap of the Austrian Grand Prix last week, all eyes will be on the start. The race begins at 8 a.m. ET and television coverage will begin at 7:30 on CSNBC, with a live stream available via NBC Sports.
Will either Mercedes gain an advantage at the start, or can the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo on the second row make some kind of challenge? After such a bad qualifying for Sebastian Vettel, coupled with another five-place grid penalty, can he move through the field and challenge those same Red Bulls?
There are tons of questions going into Sunday.
Mercedes may ultimately be out of reach in the Constructor’s Championship at the end of the day, but Red Bull seem poised to leave Ferrari behind if they can hold their starting spots after qualifying. Then there’s the actual battle between Verstappen, Formula 1’s young gun, and Ricciardo on the second row. Their battle won’t be quite as fierce as the one between Hamilton and Rosberg, but it could still produce fireworks.
Hamilton’s lost lap in Q3 put a ton of pressure on him to perform later in the session -- but he was fine with it.
“I quite liked it for some reason,” Hamilton said. “I feel like I have been under pressure all my life in different scenarios, as we all have, and I do feel comfortable in that scenario.”
When asked if the race might be decided on the first corner, Hamilton said “Not at all!”
Last season, the Mercedes that started in first often finished in first, and there wasn’t much of a race to be had. That hasn’t been the case for much of this year, with pit strategy playing a massive factor in which driver is in position to win. Engine troubles on both ends have also crept up, but they create plenty of their own drama on the track, like when the Mercedes teammates collided on the final lap in the last race.
That collision saw Hamilton limp to the finish in first after taking minor damage, but Rosberg fell several places and suffered for it. Many felt that Rosberg crashed into Hamilton given the ample room left when Hamilton went around the outside, but Rosberg tried to squeeze him and ultimately, his car took more damage and his championship lead shrunk.
Sunday’s race will begin bright and early in the United States, beginning at 8 a.m.
