Austrian Grand Prix 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch Formula 1 online

Here’s how to watch the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix is set for Sunday from the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Styria, Austria. While a familiar face in Lewis Hamilton sits on pole, the grid behind him is shuffled quite a bit from the norm. Nico Hulkenberg of Force India qualified in third place behind Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, but he’ll start in the front row after Rosberg was given a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change.

Sunday’s race will be broadcast in the United States on CSNBC and will be available via live stream at NBC Sports, beginning at 8 a.m. ET.

Behind Hulkenberg is Jenson Button of McLaren. Button, a longtime veteran of Formula 1 and one of the most respected drivers in the field, has been slumming it in a bad car for a few seasons now. But Honda continues to make improvements to its engine and Button qualified in a season-best fifth place, thanks to those improvements and a bit of help from a chaotic qualifying session made more chaotic with rain and a wet track.

“Amazing, we start the race P3 tomorrow,” Button said. “That’s a bit of luck, I’ll take it. I feel we haven’t had much this year.”

It was Button’s first time making it into the third qualifying session this season, and only the second time he’s out-qualified teammate Fernando Alonso. His teammate will start in 14th place on the grid due to a confluence of events that started with his team accidentally putting him out in qualifying on used tires, and ended with yellow caution flags preventing him from turning in a faster time.

Hamilton trails Rosberg by 24 points in the Driver’s Championship and has plenty of room to make up ground, with Rosberg starting from seventh position. Rosberg has struggled with overtaking in recent weeks, as well.

With Hamilton, Hulkenberg and Button in the top three, the top 10 shakes out with Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari, Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull, Valtteri Bottas of Williams, Rosberg, Max Verstappen of Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari and Felipe Massa of Williams. Vettel was also handed a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change. Rio Haryanto, Jolyon Palmer and Felipe Nasr all received three-place grid penalties due to speeding under the yellow caution flags.
