Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes can win the Formula One Drivers Championship with a finish of fifth place or better at Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix from the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, but he’ll be starting third on the grid behind Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari on pole and Max Verstappen of Red Bull in second.

The grand prix will begin at 3 p.m. ET and will be broadcast by NBC in the United States. Live streaming can be found via NBC Sports in web browsers or via the NBC Sports app on phones, tablets and game consoles.
Hamilton couldn’t keep pace with Red Bull or Ferrari, and starts on the second row next to teammate Valtteri Bottas. Vettel narrowly passed Verstappen to take pole position, but he nearly didn’t.
“It’s very difficult here — it’s very slippery and difficult to get everything in one lap and had a little bit in the first sector and managed to get that right so I had a good start,” Vettel said. “Then I had a bit of a moment in turn six and I nearly lost it there. I had to go down to first gear but didn’t lose any time. Then I knew in the last sector if I could just keep it clean and cross the line it should be enough and it was, so I’m really really happy.”
Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari and Esteban Ocon of Force India have the third row, Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull and Nico Hulkenberg of Renault the fourth and finally, Carlos Sainz Jr. of Renault and Sergio Perez of Force India round out the top 10.
Toro Rosso will field Brendon Hartley and Pierre Gasly as their two drivers for this race, and it sounds like Daniil Kvyat has truly lost his seat on a permanent basis. Gasly will start from the back of the grid after not posting a time in qualifying.
Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne of McLaren both will start near the back, at 18th and 19th, respectively, due to a power unit component change.
