Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari trails Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in the F1 Drivers Championship by just three points, but will be four grid spots ahead of him when the Singapore Grand Prix gets underway on Sunday.
F1 Singapore 2017: Starting grid, lineup for Grand Prix race
Can Sebastian Vettel retake the lead from Lewis Hamilton? He has pole for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. ET and will be broadcast by NBCSN in the United States. As usual, a live stream can be found online at NBC Sports and via the NBC Sports app on smartphones and other devices.
Vettel has 235 points in the Drivers Championship standings, and he had the lead until the Italian Grand Prix the last time out. Hamilton won that race and took the lead, but on the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the Ferraris are simply the faster cars.
As it turns out, the Red Bulls are also the faster cars thanks to their exceptional aerodynamics. Max Verstappen of Red Bull will start next to Vettel on the front row, with teammate Daniel Ricciardo just behind him. The other Ferrari driver, Kimi Raikkonen, will start fourth, just ahead of Hamilton and his teammate, Valtteri Bottas.
“I’m happy that we got the car where it deserved to be and then we’ll take it from there,” Vettel said after Saturday’s qualifying session. “Tomorrow’s a long race. These Red Bull guys are very, very quick. We had a difficult night yesterday, a better night today and I’m sure the car will be like today tomorrow, so it should be better but it will be a very close race.”
Hamilton, for his part, said that he felt like he pushed everything he could out of his car, and that Mercedes was further off the start than expected.
“I don’t know if I anticipated that we would be this far off this weekend — maybe two or three tenths, but five tenths is a good gap,” Hamilton said. “I think we’re all feeling it within the team, but we’ll still do the best job we can tomorrow.”
