Week 1 of the fantasy football season is in the books and once again, tight ends were a pain in the tight end area. This week there were no tight ends who topped 50 receiving yards and scored a touchdown. That puts Juwan Johnson as TE1 in PPR with 8 receptions on 11 targets for 76 yards and Dalton Kincaid as TE1 in standard leagues with 4 receptions of 48 yards and a touchdown on 4 targets.

Chet Gresham takes us through the top 50 PPR tight ends for Week 2

Of the two TE1’s this week, Johnson and his 11 targets are much more interesting than Kincaid. The usual top plays all did well, but injuries and lack of touchdowns slowed them down. Both George Kittle and Brock Bowers are dealing with injuries, which is two-thirds of the elite tight ends going into the season.
Rookie Tyler Warren had good usage in his debut, catching 7-of-9 targets for 76 yards. Daniel Jones’ check down tendencies worked well for the rookie in Week 1.
Another rookie, Harold Fannin Jr., was all over thew place for Cleveland against the Bengals. He caught 7-of-9 targets for 63 yards, which put him as TE6 in PPR leagues. He should be a good pickup if you lost Kittle to injury.
Tight end injuries
George Kittle, 49ers
Kittle suffered a hamstring injury which will keep him out at least four weeks after being placed on the PUP list. This is a huge blow to fantasy players who drafted Kittle and to the 49ers offense. Expect Christian McCaffrey to continue seeing big targets with Kittle out.
Brock Bowers, Raiders
Bowers was forced from the Raiders game in Foxboro with a knee injury. He was unable to return, but apparently the injury isn’t serious and he will be fine, per Tom Pelissero. Of course, it’s still worth keeping an eye on his status moving forward.
Evan Engram, Broncos
Engram was pushed from their game against the Titans due to a calf injury. We are still waiting on news as to the severity, but if he does miss time, expect Adam Trautman to see the biggest bump in fantasy value.

Streaming TEs
Hunter Henry, Patriots at Dolphins
Henry caught 4-of-8 targets for 66 yards in their Week 1 loss to the Ravens. His eight targets tied for the team lead and his 66-of-71 snaps played is exactly what we want to see. Add in a Dolphins defense that was awful in Week 1, and we have ourselves a good streamer.
Brenton Strange, Jaguars at Bengals
Strange got off to a hot start in Week 2, but went quiet as the game went on. He did catch all four of his targets for 59 yards and gets a defense in Cincinnati that was the worst against fantasy tight ends in 2024. I like this game to be high-scoring and set up well for Strange.
