Fantasy Football News Roundup Week 5: Malcolm Floyd Busts Out
It was another big week in fantasy football. Here’s a roundup of Week 5 fantasy football news.

Here’s a run down of the weekend that was in fantasy football.
Malcom Floyd does his best Vincent Jackson impression
Chargers WR Vincent Jackson is unsigned and does not plan on reporting to the Chargers this year.
On Sunday, one of his former teammates, Malcom Floyd, did his best VJ impression.
Floyd caught eight balls for 213 yards and one touchdown.
QB Philip Rivers is having an incredible start to the season -- besides, you know, the 2-3 record -- with another 400-plus yard day in Oakland.
Floyd had 285 yards and two touchdowns on the season entering the game. He’s turned into, statistically, one of the best receivers in the game this year.
Kyle Orton continues hot streak
Only Kurt Warner has thrown for more yards in the first four games of an NFL season than Kyle Orton has this year. It's simply incredible the type of numbers he's been able to put up.
On Sunday, his 314 yards against the Ravens were actually below his season average.
He put up a pair of touchdowns and didn’t throw a pick against Baltimore.
Is Orton on his way to becoming part of the fantasy elite or is he already there?
Lions QB Shaun Hill reminds me of former Lions QB Jon Kitna
QB Shaun Hill is replacing the injured QB Matthew Stafford for the Lions. He's not going to be around all season as it appears Stafford will be returning in the next 1-2 weeks.
Hill reminds me of QB Jon Kitna
You all remember Kitna, right? He played for the Lions in that Mike Martz offense where he would consistently put up a ton of yards, a couple of touchdowns with 2-3 interceptions tacked on.
Here are Shaun Hill’s numbers over the last four games replacing Stafford:
- 25-of-45 for 335 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
- 29-of-43 for 237 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs
- 34-of-54 for 331 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
- 21-of-32 for 227 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs
That last game came in Sunday's 44-6 blowout of the Rams. Occasionally Kitna would find a game like that, as well.
Fantasy football players loved Kitna because he threw often for lots of yards, but he just as often threw interceptions. That seems to be the path Hill is going down.
Hakeem Nicks scores, a lot
I’m not the type of guy who pores over the stats for every player every week. So occasionally when I do look at the stat book, I’m surprised by what I see.
That's the case with Hakeem Nicks. He's racked up six touchdowns in the first Giants first five games.
On Sunday against the Texans, he was targeted 17 times and caught 12 of those balls for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
That’s six total touchdowns in five games for Nicks.
In the long run, fantasy football players should like to see that 17 targets number. Targeting a receiver 17 times in one game is a lot. If you have Nicks, rest assured Manning will keep him involved.
Miles Austin is very consistent
This offseason the Cowboys gave WR Miles Austin a big contract reportedly worth $50 million. This was after just one breakout season causing some, like me, to think the move was made in haste.
So far, Austin has proved he’s worth it. Check out his first four games this year:
- 10 receptions, 146 yards, 1 TD
- 10 receptions, 142 yards
- 2 receptions, 20 yards
- 9 receptions, 166 yards, 1 TD
Miles Austin fantasy football owners should be feeling pretty good right about now. It looks like he was no mistake. He’s the real deal.
