Week 6 Fantasy Football Tips: Stay Patient With Slow Starters

Five weeks into the fantasy football season, no matter what your record looks like, you’ve probably found at least one player on your roster that makes you wonder what you ever saw in him. There are plenty of high-profile players around the NFL that are off to slow starts, even while their teams may not be. In many cases, these slow starts have led to slow starts for your fantasy teams, as well.

Can these fantasy studs turn things around? The answer won’t be “yes” for all of them, but we’re feeling pretty good about these four players. The All-Resuscitation Team appears after the jump.

Texans QB Matt Schaub. Aside from a huge performance in Week 2 against Washington, Schaub has been fairly quiet on the fantasy front, being held under 250 passing yards in every other game and getting sacked 14 times in the process. Houston's schedule isn't going to get much easier, but with Andre Johnson, Jacoby Jones and Owen Daniels rounding back into form, the Texans will have enough talent offensively to make big plays against the league's best defenses. Schaub may not be as great as he was in 2009, but he'll be a weekly starter regardless.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles. At some point, the Chiefs will realize that Jamaal Charles is a star, and that Thomas Jones is not. They may have already reached that point, as Charles has steadily seen more and more work as the season has progressed. Averaging a ridiculous 6.5 yards per carry on the season, Charles should see enough work to round into his second-half 2009 form, when he torched defenses for 968 yards and seven touchdowns over Kansas City's final eight games. He'll be assisted by a fairly soft schedule, as well.

Steelers WR Mike Wallace. He had big numbers (100 yards, two touchdowns on just three receptions) in Week 3 against Tampa Bay), but otherwise, the second-year big-play receiver has been hindered by Pittsburgh's well-documented issues at quarterback. It may take Ben Roethlisberger a week or two to shake off the rust of his just-completed four-game suspension, but when he does, Wallace will be the biggest beneficiary, and should emerge as a must-start in all formats.

Eagles TE Brent Celek. Coming off a 76-catch, eight-score season in 2009, most thought that Celek would see a role increase after the insertion of Kevin Kolb into the starting lineup. Celek has been coming on of late, scoring in two straight contests as Kolb has filled in for the resurgent Michael Vick. Celek is still a big cog in the Eagles' passing machine, regardless of who is at quarterback, but keep in mind that he'll see much more action if Kolb is in the lineup. Vick prefers throwing to his receivers or running.
