Bad news just got worse for the Colts: TE Dallas Clark is done for the year.
Dallas Clark’s 2010 Season Is Over; Will Go On Injured Reserve For Wrist Surgery
After consulting with team doctors, seeing a hand specialist, and getting a second opinion from a hand specialist, Clark will undergo surgery on his wrist that will result in him being placed on injured reserve ending his season.
“It’s unfortunate, but it’s been confirmed that surgery is necessary to repair the injury to my wrist,” Clark said. “I have met with three great surgeons, Dr. (Arthur) Rettig of the Colts, Dr. (Thomas) Wiedrich in Chicago and Dr. (Thomas) Graham in Cleveland. All three have helped me and my family out tremendously during this process. I look forward to supporting my teammates the rest of this season and rehabilitating my wrist back to full strength for next season.”
Ouch. That’s a blow for fantasy football in 2010. But will it be a blow to fantasy football players beyond 2010? SB Nation’s Stampede Blue passes along a quote from Indianapolis exec Bill Polian and it sounds like there’s a chance this could bother him for a while.
"Dallas' injury is a rather rare injury," Polian said. "It's to a ligament in the hand that's been displaced. He's going to let us know later today what the specialists told him and what his thoughts are on how to proceed.
"I'm told that it's not something that's very safe to play with. It's likely that he will have to have it fixed (surgery), but I don't know the ramifications to that and I won't until later (Thursday night)."
Clark, Polian added, "will be out for a while, if not longer."
The Colts have had major injury issues as of late (Austin Collie, anyone?) but this is a major, major blow to the Colts and to fantasy football. Clark hasn’t missed more than one game in a season since 2006.
