When the Indianapolis Colts lost star tight end Dallas Clark for the season, many people openly wondered how this would affect Peyton Manning’s production, as Clark was one of his favorite targets, particularly on underneath routes. The play of Jacob Tamme, however, has quickly erased any lingering doubts about Manning and the Colts’ abilities to produce in the passing game without a stud tight end.
Jacob Tamme Becoming A Very Viable Fantasy Tight End
At halftime of their Week 9 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, Tamme has hauled in seven passes for 53 yards and a touchdown. In his last six quarters since taking over as Indy’s starting tight end, he has 13 receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns - with more to come.
With Clark out of the lineup, teams continue to try to take Reggie Wayne away, and as they roll coverages toward Wayne and Austin Collie (prior to Collie’s injury), they’re leaving players like Tamme uncovered. Wayne also has seven receptions at halftime in Philadelphia, but Tamme has been targeted just as much as Indy’s star receiver. Manning clearly has a lot of confidence in the third-year player out of Kentucky, so don’t expect the production to wane any time soon.
Tamme, however, can’t yet claim to be the best fantasy football player this season that was late-round 2008 draft pick out of Kentucky. That title still belongs to Bills receiver Stevie Johnson. Tamme was a fourth-round pick in ‘08, while Johnson was a seventh-round pick.
