The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled QB Matt Cassel as doubtful for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers. Most figured this would be the case all along and it is. That means Cassel has a 25 percent chance of playing but fantasy football players can pretty much rule him out.
Matt Cassel Doubtful For Chiefs-Chargers; Step Up, Brodie Croyle
It will be QB Brodie Croyle taking his place on the field. Is he a fantasy football option?
I wouldn't expect much from Croyle but he may not be a total dud. Croyle stepped in for Cassel in the first game of the 2009 season against the Baltimore Ravens, who ended the season as the third ranked defense. Croyle completed 16-of-24 passes for 177 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
The Chiefs place a heavy emphasis on the quarterback not turning the ball over which may lead to some less than desirable fantasy football stats from Croyle. if you’re looking for a guess on his stats, I would say the numbers he put up against the Ravens last year the best-case scenario.
This move also affects RBs Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. They can expected an already heavy work load to be increased this weekend. The Chargers are a strong run defense but they're coming off of a meltdown against the Oakland Raiders in which they gave up 251 rushing yards.
The Chiefs will be trying to do the same thing. Both running backs, as usual, are worth a start.
