Kevin Kolb Starts In Place Of Michael Vick In Week 17 - And Beyond?

The Philadelphia Eagles will start Kevin Kolb at quarterback in Week 17, relegating Michael Vick to backup duties in a relatively meaningless game for the NFC's third playoff seed. This we knew prior to Sunday. Philadelphia has clinched a division title, won't be able to secure a bye in the first round, and will be the third seed in the NFC when the NFL playoffs next Sunday.

According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio (by way of Mike Florio), Vick took the week off of practice not just to stay healthy heading into the NFL playoffs, but to study up on Philly's likely Wild Card opponent, the Green Bay Packers.

Here’s the interesting part of the story: Paolantonio thinks there’s a chance that Vick could be benched in favor of Kolb in the playoffs should Vick struggle.

Try to wrap your minds around that one. Vick has been one of the NFL’s most prolific scoring threats in 2010, making him not just a fantasy football stalwart, but a legitimate MVP candidate. But because Vick has struggled with recognizing and adjusting to blitzes - Andy Reid isn’t a fan of this. That’s why he spent a week normally set aside for Week 17 prep studying the exotic blitzing schemes of Dom Caper’s 3-4 attack in Green Bay.

It's hard to fathom Philly benching an MVP candidate that helped lead a miraculous comeback victory against the Giants just two weeks ago. Then again, this is Philadelphia; crazier things have happened.
