We’re entering the last week of the first quarter of the 2011 NFL season which means we’re almost done with the first third of the 2011 fantasy football season. If you lost the first game of the season, no big deal. Lost the second too, again no sweat. If you lost the third you began to worry and you know you can’t lose the fourth and go 0-4 to start the season. That’s a pretty big hole to dig yourself out of.
Fantasy Football Week 4 Start ‘Em/Sit ‘Em: James Starks Will Benefit With Ryan Grant Out
Having trouble decided who to start and sit on your fantasy football team in Week 4? Maybe this will help.

Whether your 0-3 or 3-0 here’s some advice on who to start and who to sit in week four of the 2011 NFL season.
Quarterbacks:
Eli Manning QB New York Giants -- Start
Manning is usually a backup unless you're in deep leagues but you may want to start him today. He looked impressive last week against the Eagles' deep secondary. He's going up against a very soft Arizona Cardinals that allows an average of two passing touchdowns per game. If your usual starter is going up against a tough defense, go with Eli this week.
Cam Newton QB Carolina Panthers -- Sit
Cam Newton has been a lot of fun to watch and if you picked him up on your fantasy team, you've had even more fun. Last week was the first time he didn't throw for over 400 yards but in his defense he was playing football in a pool. This week Newton and the Panthers are traveling to Chicago to take on the Bears. After two straight home games I wouldn't be surprised to see Newton struggle at Soldier Field.
Running Backs:
James Starks RB Green Bay Packers -- Start
Starks is usually an iffy play because he splits carries with fellow running back Ryan Grant. However, this week Grant is out with a bruised Kidney which means Starks is the man. On top of that, the Packers are hosting the Denver Broncos. If the Packers get out to a lead on Denver, and they should, they'll likely run the ball more and more just to let the clock run out. Without Grant on the field, Starks could have a big day.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis RB New England Patriots -- Sit
The Patriots have like 17 running backs on their roster and they use all of them. Okay, so they don't really have 17 but the ones that they do have get carries. That's bad for fantasy owners. Not only will Green-Ellis lose carries to Danny Woodhead, but after two failed attempts to get the ball in the end zone from the one- and two-yard line, he could lose carries to Stevan Ridley too. Green-Ellis is safe some weeks but the Patriots are facing a tough Raiders team on the road. Sit him this week.
Wide Receivers:
Denarius Moore WR Oakland Raiders -- Start
The Patriots should be worried today. Not only do they have to try and stop Darren McFadden, the leagues leading rusher... by a lot, they have to somehow stop the Raiders passing game with the worst passing defense in the league. If they focus the majority of their attention of Run DMC, and they probably will, Moore could have a big game. He's had two pretty solid back-to-back games and against a soft opponent, he could go for the turkey.
Chad Ochocinco WR New England Patriots -- Sit
Chad just isn’t getting it done. Not only does Ochocinco not get many targets but when he does get them, he dropps the ball. He dropped a wide open touchdown pass last week against the Bills that could have been the difference between their loss and a division win. I’m thinking that they’re not too terribly pleased with Ochocinco in New England and I wouldn’t start him unless you have no other choice.
Tight Ends:
Scott Chandler TE Buffalo Bills -- Start
The Bills have the third ranked offense and are going up against the third ranked defense of the Bengals in Cincinnati today. Even though the Bengals will be their biggest defensive test of the season so far, they are also infamous for letting good tight ends make them look completely incompetent. Just ask Alex Smith and Vernon Davis.
Dustin Keller TE New York Jets -- Sit
Keller has a lot of talent and when he and Mark Sanchez are on the same page Keller is a fantasy killer. But there are two words that should hold you back from starting him this week: Ravens Defense. In a deep league without many tight ends go ahead and start him but if you're in an eight-person league go ahead and find a replacement for the week.
Defenses:
Saints Defense -- Start
The Saints are going to be on the road but they're facing the Jacksonville Jaguars and rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert. If they can stop running back Maurice Jones-Drew they may be able to capitalize on some rookie quarterback mistakes.
Dallas Cowboys -- Sit
The Cowboys have the fifth ranked defense in the league and they're playing at home but they're also playing against the Detroit Lions. That means they're going to have to find an answer for Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson which is something that no team has managed to do so far this season. The Lions are the real deal and the Cowboys will probably learn that the hard way.
