James Starks is still in a bit of a timeshare with fellow Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant. His fantasy owners can take some solace in the fact that Starks had four more carries than his backfield mate on Sunday, however, and received for targets in the passing game to boot.
James Starks Fantasy Update: Packers Rely On Him When They Run, But Don’t Run Often
Starks carried the ball 13 times for 75 yards and caught three balls out of the backfield for an additional 24 yards. Most importantly, perhaps, he received the final few carries of the game when the Packers needed to run the clock out as they held on to defeat the Minnesota Vikings.
Starks has split time with Grant in the crowded Green Bay backfield, and been more marginalized than he was late in the Packers’ Super Bowl run, thanks to the wealth of options the offense has. But Starks has still has had 40 or more yards in all but one game, and he’s gotten between nine and 13 carries in every game. That’s reliable production, anyway -- if not spectacular, week-winning play.
