Willis McGahee Injury Update: Fractured Hand Could Sideline Broncos RB

Denver Broncos running back Willis McGahee was sidelined during Sunday's thriller in Miami, and it looks like the Broncos could be without the resurgent running back for a few weeks. McGahee left the game in the third quarter with a hand injury and x-rays have indicated he suffered a fracture. McGahee had 18 rushes for 76 yards when he left the game. Knowshon Moreno and Lance Ball rushed 13 times for 42 yards in his absence.

At this point we do not know how much time Willis McGahee will miss. McGahee will need to figure out if he can rush with a cast on his hand. If he can handle the ball while wearing a cast, it is entirely possible he plays this week. The team will look to get a cast on his hand as soon as possible if they have not already, and test it out over the next day or two. The Broncos will issue their first practice participation report on Wednesday, at which point we’ll have a better handle on this.

If McGahee is unable to play, or is limited on Sunday, Knowshon Moreno would get the start in his place in spite of apparently being in John Fox’s dog house. Lance Ball would operate as his primary backup.
