After Felix Jones was lost due to a high ankle sprain, there were some question marks regarding how the rookie DeMarco Murray and his backup Tashard Choice might split carries on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams. Murray provided an emphatic answer to that question, and might have raised some question marks about Felix Jones in the process. Murray set the Dallas Cowboys single game rookie rushing record as he broke off 253 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys 34-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Murray had looked solid in limited action to date, but I don’t think anybody anticipated this kind of performance, even against the Rams. His day was highlighted by a 91-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter to give the Cowboys a 7-0 lead. He did not let up from there as he finished with 25 of the Cowboys 34 carries.
Behind Murray, Phillip Tanner rushed six times for 34 yards and Tashard Choice rushed two times for eight yards. At this point, it really seems like Choice is the odd man out of this rotation. If Tanner has some more success in the coming weeks, Tashard Choice is likely the odd man out moving forward. The Cowboys face a fairly wretched Philadelphia Eagles rush defense this Sunday. It is on the road though, so it is sure to be a tough game for the Cowboys.
