As week eight of the 2011 NFL season gets going on Sunday, most fantasy football leagues are passing through the halfway point of their regular season. While the skill positions are where fantasy owners focus in, the kicker position can be a big gainer if you have the right kicker. One such kicker is big-legged Sebastian Janikowski. However, he is on the shelf this week as he suffered a hamstring injury and is out through at least the Oakland Raiders bye week.
Fantasy Football Week 8 Advice: Sit/Start Projections For Kickers
For this week, bye weeks are not a huge deal for the kicking position. The bye week includes Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay, Oakland, the NY Jets and Tampa Bay. That includes solid kickers like Mason Crosby and Robbie Gould. Kickers generally are not must-keeps, although some folks might decide Mason Crosby is worth stashing on the bench for a week. At the same time tou don't want to take a zero at any position this week. So, if you have to waive one of them, so be it.
For this bye week, if you are looking for a decent kicking option, your best bet is to go with the kickers from teams that have high over/under totals. For those wondering what that means, the over/under is total combined points oddsmakers expect two teams to score. You can view some over/under totals at Odds Shark. Some of the higher over/unders include New England-Pittsburgh (53), Dallas-Philadelphia (48 1/2) and Minnesota-Carolina (47). Ryan Longwell of the Vikings might be a particularly solid option.
