You come into the season thinking you know which players will carry you to a championship and which players to avoid, but really fantasy football is about 5 percent knowledge, 94 percent luck and one percent taking advantage of people who don’t know what they’re doing. The players that put up insane points every week are few and far between but there are fantasy studs every week and Week 8 of the 2011 season was no exception.
Fantasy Football Week 8: Studs Include Steven Jackson and Ray Rice
Week 8 fantasy football studs include Steven Jackson and Ray Rice.
Here are the five top fantasy heroes from Week 8.
Steven Jackson RB St. Louis Rams
Steven Jackson must have been inspired by the professional baseball team that shares his city because he had his best game of the season against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. In fact his 159 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries was his best overall rushing performance since the last game of the 2008 season and that doesn't even account for his 32 receiving yards.
Jackson was a beast and was one of the main reasons the Rams were able to pull off the upset over the Saints.
Score: 30 points (ESPN standard scoring)
After looking terrible on Monday Night Football against the Jaguars in Week 7, Ray Rice scored three touchdowns in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. It was Rice's first three rushing touchdown game. He only had 63 yards on the ground, but he added 36 yards receiving to give him 99 yards on the day.
All three of Rice’s touchdowns were scored in the second half.
Score: 27 points
Cam Newton QB Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton has put up some ridiculous number so far in his rookie year and he has only played in one game in which he hasn't thrown a touchdown pass. That was Sunday's game. Against the Minnesota Vikings, Newton threw for three touchdowns, the most of his young career, and added 290 yards passing and he even was nice enough to add 53 yards on the ground.
Newton is slowly but surely turning into fantasy gold, especially in leagues that put a lot of emphasis on rushing touchdowns.

LeSean McCoy RB Philadelphia Eagles
McCoy has had an incredible season and he'll likely be taken high in the first round of most 2012 fantasy drafts. He only has one game so far this season in which he hasn't scored a touchdown and on Sunday night at home against the Dallas Cowboys, who have one of the best run defenses in the league, McCoy exploaded.
He carried the ball 30 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns.
Score: 31 points
Calvin Johnson scored his 12th touchdown of the season against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. He also had his fifth 100-yard or more game. On Sunday, Johnson caught six passes for 125 yards and one touchdown in the Lions' 45-10 win over the Broncos.
The crazy thing is that this isn’t even close to being his best game of the season.
