Fantasy Football Bye Week 5: Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Fill-Ins

Week five of the 2011 NFL season is upon us, which means the league enters its first round of bye weeks. Week Five byes include the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams and Washington Redskins. For the purposes of the wide receiver position, the following players are on bye:

Anquan Boldin
Torrey Smith
Mohamed Massaquoi
Josh Cribbs
Dez Bryant
Miles Austin
Brandon Marshall
Davone Bess
Brandon Gibson
Danario Alexander
Mike Sims-Walker
Santana Moss
Jabar Gaffney

There are not a ton of huge names on bye this week at the wide receiver position, but still some noticeable absences. Dez Bryant is the biggest name with Santana Moss, Brandon Marshall and Anquan Boldin also getting decent play in fantasy leagues. The bye week is big this week because it sounds like Miles Austin will be back following the bye week and ready to get back in your lineups.

If you are in need of a bye week wide receiver fill-in, you can likely play some matchup chess on a week-to-week basis. There are intriguing matchups and situations that could make certain players worth a flier. A good example of that is Malcom Floyd. He is likely owned in a decent amount of leagues, but if not, with Vincent Jackson hurting and potentially sitting out or at least extremely limited this Sunday, Floyd could be a quality target for Philip Rivers.

Another guy some folks are jumping on is Texans wide receiver Jacoby Jones. With Andre Johnson sidelined with a hamstring injury, Jones is filling his X role in the Texans wide receiver corps. I'm not sold on Jones, but if he's ever going to bust out, now is the time.

Some other sleeper options this week would include Bay Area players Joshua Morgan and Darrius Heyward-Bey. Morgan could face a Bucs secondary short a man with Aqib Talib missing practice on Thursday with a knee injury. Morgan is quietly developing a nice rapport with QB Alex Smith and could be a decent bye-week fill-in this week. DHB has struggled in the past with the drops but is coming off a monster game against the New England Patriots.
