Andre Johnson Injury Status: Declared Out For Sunday Versus Tampa Bay

In a move that is not particularly surprising, Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak declared Andre Johnson out for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Johnson continues to try and work past a hamstring injury that required surgery a month ago. He injured the hamstring in the Texans week four victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers and has been sidelined ever since. The Texans hit their bye week after this game against Tampa Bay, so it is not surprising they would try to squeeze in one more week of recovery.

After losing back-to-back games following the injury, the Texans have won three straight as they have worked to spread around their passing attack. The Texans have also benefited lately from a mix of weak opponents that has allowed them to dominate in the running game. Arian Foster and Ben Tate have dominated lately and the passing attack has been able to take a step back.

When the Texans do pass the ball, Kevin Walter is the receiver who has most stepped up in place of Johnson. However, the team has been much more inclined to go to tight ends like Owen Daniels and Joel Dreessen. None of the Texans receivers remain anything more than flex options at best.
