Andre Johnson Injury Update: Gary Kubiak Expects Weekend Decision

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson remains a tough call for head coach Gary Kubiak as he continues to work back from hamstring surgery. Johnson suffered the hamstring injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week four and has been sidelined since. He has run four of the last five days, but did not run on Wednesday. Kubiak indicated Johnson will work with trainers on Thursday and be a weekend decision.

The Texans face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and then have a bye week in week eleven. Given the questionable nature of Johnson's recovery, it would not be at all surprising to see him sit out week ten to get that extra week during the bye. The Texans could use him back in their offense, but they also hold a game and a half lead in the division with a game in hand against the second place Titans. It makes no sense to risk aggravating the injury if he could be good to go following the bye week.

In the meantime, Kevin Walter remains the best wide receiver option on the Texans, but that's not exactly a great option. Owen Daniels and Arian Foster have been two of the primary beneficiaries during Johnson's injury, with the rushing game carrying the load for much of the offense. Walter does not have a ton of upside, but he is a safe play if injuries have you rattled in week ten.
