Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno Injury Update: Broncos RBs Banged Up

The Denver Broncos ran all over the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday afternoon, but they had to work around injuries to their top two running backs to get the victory. Willis McGahee went down with a left hamstring injury after four carries and Knowshon Moreno went down with a knee sprain in the second quarter.

According to John Fox, McGahee could have returned in an emergency, but the team decided not to get him back into the game. That would seem to indicate he’ll be OK for next week, but as with most hamstring injuries, we’re really going to need to see how he does in practice this week. A tight hamstring can be aggravated fairly easily, so this is something to keep an eye on Wednesday through Friday.

Knowshon Moreno left the game with a sprained knee and it sounds like the team expects Moreno to miss at least one game, and maybe more. Moreno will have an MRI Monday to determine if it’s a ligament sprain or if anything is torn. A sprained knee could knock him out two to four weeks, while tears could end his season.

In the meantime, Lance Ball was the man of the hour on Sunday as he rushed 30 times for 96 yards. If McGahee can play next week, Ball would be his backup. If McGahee can't go, Ball would likely get the start.
