Jay Cutler Injury Update: Fractured Thumb Endangers QB’s Season

The Chicago Bears have been on a strong run lately as they have ridden a five-game winning streak into firm playoff positioning in the wild card race. Unfortunately, their wild card hopes may have taken a tough hit on Sunday. Quarterback Jay Cutler reportedly suffered a broken thumb that some Bears officials fear might cost him the season. Cutler finished the game but was extremely limited in passing the ball.

Barring unexpectedly good news, the Bears will likely go to Caleb Hanie at quarterback for their week 12 contest at the Oakland Raiders. Hanie is not a fantasy prospect, but the important fantasy implications relate to guys like Matt Forte and Devin Hester. Although the Bears will likely rely even more heavily on Forte, until Hanie proves he can make plays, the opposition will likely stack the box against Forte.

For now, this is a situation to monitor. Forte remains a must-start, but consider the potential impact on opposing defenses with Cutler likely out for an extended period of time.
