Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's high left ankle sprain will likely keep him out of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Adrian Peterson Doubtful With High Ankle Sprain
Peterson was injured in the second quarter of the Vikings’ 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. An MRI confirmed the high ankle sprain and the four-time Pro Bowler was held out of all of this week’s practices. Officially listed as “Doubtful”, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier quantified how doubtful Peterson was for the Falcons game, terming him as “very, very doubtful” to play, Judd Zulgad of 1500ESPN.com reports.
“The trouble (Peterson) had was when he got up on his toes to plant or make a cut, that’s where he had trouble,” Frazier said. “That being the case, it’s doubtful he’ll be able to get to the point where by Sunday we felt like he would be able to get out there. But we’ll see.”
If Peterson is unable to play, 2010 second-round pick Toby Gerhart is expected to start. Gerhart has 24 carries for 118 yards on the season. Wide receiver Percy Harvin and No. 3 running back Lorenzo Booker would complement Gerhart in the running game.
