Felix Jones Injury Update: Dallas Cowboys RB Continues Rehabbing

Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones is continuing his relatively slow road to recovery and is likely going to be questionable to play this weekend against the Buffalo Bills. Cowboys head coach Sean Payton Jason Garrett has been hopeful Jones could practice this week, but he has been left primarily to individual workouts of running and cutting. Jones has been sidelined since going down week six against the New England Patriots.

The Cowboys are in a position to take their time getting him healthy because DeMarco Murray has been an absolute beast for them. Murray is averaging 6.7 yards per carry and set the Cowboys single-game rookie rushing record in his first significant appearance against the St. Louis Rams. Murray has benefited to some extent from matchups against questionable defenses in St. Louis, Philadelphia and Seattle. Nonetheless, his numbers are still impressive no matter the level of competition.

The big question is what will happen at the Cowboys running back position when Jones returns. Murray has done enough to deserve carries moving forward, but is it enough to turn Felix Jones into the complementary back? Or do they go with a straight running back by committee? For now, Murray would appear to be the week ten starter. I think he retains a majority of the carries after that, but we’ll find out more in the coming weeks.
