The New Orleans Saints welcomed running back Mark Ingram back to the field on Wednesday as he is expected to be a limited participant in practice. Ingram suffered a bruised heel three weeks ago against the Indianapolis Colts and has missed the Saints two subsequent games.
Mark Ingram Injury Update: Saints RB Returns To Limited Practice
Over the course of these two weeks, Chris Ivory has re-emerged as the workhorse back for the Saints. After grabbing six carries against the Rams, Ivory had 15 carries against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and rushed for 67 yards in that game. If Ingram has to sit out another game, Ivory would likely be the beneficiary of the carries. Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles are also receiving carries, Sproles is primarily operating as a third down back, while Thomas is just sort of in the mix as a sort of change of pace back behind Ivory.
Once Ingram returns, the Saints will have some decisions to make. Ivory is playing well, but likely does not have much fantasy value when Ingram returns. However, a strong performance this week could continue to turn some heads in the Saints coaching staff.
