The Minnesota Vikings officially ruled out running back Adrian Peterson for Sunday's Week 13 contest against the Denver Broncos. Peterson suffered a high ankle sprain two weeks ago against the Oakland Raiders and sat out last week against the Atlanta Falcons. He was able to resume jogging on Wednesday, but has not resumed substantial football activities, yet.
Adrian Peterson Injury Update: Vikings RB Officially Ruled Out
Toby Gerhart will continue in his role as the team's starting running back. He rushed 17 times for 44 yards and a touchdown in last week's loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Percy Harvin picked up five carries behind Gerhart and will continue to operate as a change of pace back for the Vikings. Harvin sat out Friday's practice with an illness but is expected to play on Sunday.
There is no specific timetable for Peterson, but if he can get back into a limited practice role next week, he could get back for their week 14 contest against the Detroit Lions. We'll keep an eye out for more when next Wednesday's practice participation report comes out.
