Darren McFadden Injury Update: Oakland Raiders Cut Back Practice Reps

The Oakland Raiders cut back running back Darren McFadden's practice reps this past week as the dynamic back has been used quite a bit in the first two games of the season. McFadden has been dealing with some shoulder soreness the first two weeks of the season but it has not limited during either game. He has 299 yards of total offense and a pair of touchdowns as he has been a key to the Raiders offense.

McFadden faces a tough Jets defense that has been a little stronger against the pass than the run. Given McFadden's use the first two weeks, it would not surprise me to see Michael Bush get a few more carries. He can be a bull in short yardage situations with the necessary burst to get some nice yards after that first broken tackle. While lost RB touches aren't high on a fantasy owner's wish list, for a back like McFadden, if it keeps him healthy, it might be worth modest loss from those touches if it keeps him on the field the entire season.

Whatever the case, McFadden remains a must-start as long as he is healthy. He is an incredibly dynamic back who adds tremendous value in the passing game. There’s no reason to bench him for the foreseeable future. If you added Michael Bush thinking there would be some value there, you’re just going to have to wait and see what happens with McFadden.
